Personal Dental Care: Yes, You Have to Go to the Dentist

Even if you say that you take care of your teeth very well, you still can’t evade the fact that you still have to go and visit your dentist at least twice a year.

Sure, it’s really not fun to go to the dentist but if you really want to achieve the best personal dental care for your teeth, regular visits to the dentist would be of great help to you.

What Happens At A Typical Visit To The Dentist Going to the dentist every six months is considered more as prevention against cavities, plaque build-up and other teeth and mouth-related problems.

The goal of dentists is to prevent gun disease, tooth decay, and other disorders that put the health of your teeth and mouth in jeopardy.

A casual consultation with a dentist will usually consist of three parts: a medical and dental history (this is where the dentist asks questions about tooth care and reviews past dental records), dental examination and professional cleaning (oral prophylaxis).

The dentist will then examine the gums, teeth and other tissues surrounding the mouth. The joints of the jaws may also be included in the examination to check for the over-all health of an individual’s mouth.

Dentists usually use a probe and mirror to check the crown (the visible part) of each tooth for evidence of looseness, decay or plaque. The dentist may also check the quality of your bite and the way your teeth fit together.

After checking the teeth, the dentist will usually proceed to examine the general condition of the gums. Healthy gums are pink and firm – not swollen, soft or inflamed.

If the dentist can find deep depressions (or pockets), he or she might suspect that an individual has gum disease.

When the dentist is finished examining the visible parts of the mouth and teeth, the dentist will then take X-rays that could possibly reveal abscesses, tooth decay, or impacted wisdom teeth.

Abscesses should really be discovered right away because it involves collection of pus surrounded by tissues that are swollen. If it won’t be treated right away, it might be a source for other complications.

Why Professional Cleaning Is Better Than Normal Tooth Brushing Professional cleaning aims to remove hard deposits with the use of a scraping instrument named a scaler.

Aside from a scaler, an ultrasonic machine may also be used by the dentist; it uses high frequency sound waves to facilitate the loosening of plaque deposits.

After cleaning, most dental hygienists will polish the teeth. Polishing of the teeth smoothens and cleans the teeth’s surfaces, removing annoying stains and making the teeth more resistant to plaque.

There are also some dental hygiene package that consists of application of fluoride sealant or compound to help prevent or slow down decay.

Going To The Dentist Isn’t So Bad After All Now that you are already aware of what happens during a regular trip to the dentist, you would probably think that a trip to the dentist won’t be so bad, right?

If you want to promote personal dental care, you should be the first one to have the initiative to go to the dentist.

You can’t achieve the best personal dental care if you just depend on yourself and your resources at home.

Dentists are equipped with tools, machines and instruments that would surely make your teeth and mouth cleaner, fresher and better.

Dental Insurance Coverage – What Do You Really Need?

Whilst it is very important to have a dental insurance coverage plan, it’s wise to be careful about what you decide to choose to buy.

Of the many dental insurance companies out there, there really are some great deals that you can take advantage of, but you need to check exactly what you are getting or you might have a nasty shock. There is nothing worse in any insurance, than thinking that you have cover and then finding out that you missed something in all that small print.

In fact, one major benefit of some insurance companies is that the dental insurance coverage they provide is very carefully spelt out in simple language so that there is no room for mistake. that suits the insurer, because they get a lot less hassle and a good reputation.

And in those cases, they are able to build a better business, because word of mouth from satisfied clients means that the dental insurance coverage they offer, without too many complaints, provided what was expected.

Of course there are dental insurance coverage plans that have all the bells and whistles, including all the costs from your dentist completely. And that dentist could be the very one you chose too.

In other cases, you might have to use a dentist that the company choose, which might even mean quite a journey and even a dentist that you don’t really like or, worse, trust with your dental work. Maybe, for some people a small price to pay a little more to get peace of mind.

It’s also possible that the dental insurance coverage provided by ‘list’ dentists that some companies require, pays for all their services fully, but only pays for selected services from those dentists you choose, so it’s vital to be very clear about what you get for what you pay.

There’s another thing about the level of cover you get.

Depending on the company and the dental insurance coverage, there are different ways for the dentist to receive payment. It could be that the work is done, the dentist bills the dental insurance company and gets paid direct. In some other arrangements, you could get billed first and then claim it back, which can seriously affect your cash flow for a while.

And finally, the dental insurance coverage might be in between the two in terms of the type of coverage that you get. The premiums may well be reduced for those that use the dentists on the list provided by the insurance company.

So, all in all it’s really important to check out the small print (or find a dental insurance company that only has easy to understand terms), so that you understand exactly what you are getting in the dental insurance coverage you are buying.

Are You Still Recuperating From the Jolt of Your Previous Dental Estimate?

<p>Are you pondering the idea of getting your teeth fixed? Then think again and finalize on completing your major dental work in Mexico. The question is why in Mexico? The answer is that in the U.S and Canada, the cost for dental services are exorbitant and can make a deep hole in your pocket. Reports conclude that it is probable to save as much as 65%-75% of the dental costs if undertaken in Mexico. </p><br>

<p> Mexico is an apt destination for inexpensive dental care offering quality services in spite of keeping your budget in mind. Effective and efficient but still cheap dentistry services in Mexico can be illustrated by this first hand example. There was a young man who was born and brought up in a cow ranch in the U.S. His income was barely sufficient to feed himself and his family and any extra expenses were considered a burden. Unfortunately, he met with an unforeseen accident that cost him his jaw line. He endured many miniscule fractures resulting in disfigured and broken teeth. Considering his income and savings, he decided to get dentally treated in Mexico. He found an excellent dentist and for the first time in years, he felt that his teeth were being taken care of properly and it was not costing him an arm and leg to do so. He experienced dentists who were hospitable, welcoming, gracious and professional in Mexico and had absolutely no issues in communicating with them. His dental procedures list was quite lengthy and he required two dental implants, several crowns replaced and innumerable X- rays. And it still would all be less expensive than back in the U.S including the airfare and hotel stay. The dental procedures were latest and hygienic, charges were reasonable and fair and fortunately the dentist was a genuine individual who donated services to those who really needed dental work but cannot afford it. The young man returns home with a gleeful smile giving his Mexican experience 5 stars with a hope to return and also glad that he would not have to sell his ranch. </p><br>

<p>An u.s citizen can easily save thousands by indulging in safe Mexican dentistry procedures in Mexico. The dental clinics in Mexico are maintained to meet the American and Canadian standards in terms of cleanliness, hygiene and excellence. The dentists are highly qualified and strive to excel in their specialties. Mexican dentists put in that extra effort and work tremendously hard to imbibe new knowledge, enhance their communication skills and provide undivided attention to each detail. To be a dentist in Mexico, one needs to at least have 4-5 years of university education, one year of community services in his/her kitty. They are also required to pass their final exam and finish a test by the health department to get a license. Incase a dentist is found guilty of any malpractices or wrongdoings; he then loses his permit for life. The dentistry education offered in Mexico is quite similar to the U.S and Canada. Mexican dentistry offers both oral health care as well as cosmetic dentistry. You can have your Hollywood smiles for less in Mexico! There are various options available to improve your smile like porcelain veneer, tooth polishing, whitening, bleaching and closing gaps between the teeth. If you have substantial dental work to do, then you must head to Mexico since you pay much lesser for your dental work all including a vacation package too than you would if you went to a dentist in U.S or Canada. </p><br>

</p>All said and done, we can conclude that if you are still recuperating from the shock of your previous dental bills incurred in U.S, then don’t sit back and mourn, plan a trip to Mexico that includes the treatment of your dental problems too. </p>

The Fountain of Youth Rediscovered in Puerto Vallarta

By: Jim Scherrer

Puerto Vallarta, the sleepy little Mexican fishing village that’s no longer sleepy or little is located at the same latitude as Maui, Hawaii. Being at that latitude, Vallarta experiences the same perfect daily temperatures as Maui from November through May averaging about 73°F. However Vallarta is much more hospitable for vacationing or retirement during those months because it experiences an average monthly rainfall of less than 0.4 inches, whereas Maui receives anywhere from 1.7 to 2.6 inches of rain per month depending upon your location on the island. Additionally, Vallarta is located a short two to four hours from most US cities while Maui is six to ten hours from most mainland US cities.

Now that we know that Vallarta is conveniently located south of the border, we ask; what does this Paradise in the foothills of the Sierra Madres on the Pacific Ocean have to do with the Fountain of Youth? Well, it just so happens that thousands of North Americans that visit Vallarta every year arrive looking pale, wrinkled, obese, and or with dental problems and return home a week or two later looking tan, younger, thinner, and or with clean white and straight teeth!

One might attribute these miraculous conversions during such short vacations to either visiting the Fountain of Youth or if that explanation doesn’t pass muster, to undergoing various modern medical procedures!

Puerto Vallarta is home to three large new fully equipped modern hospitals with a fourth currently under construction as well as numerous high tech dental clinics and the modern Ameri-Med Clinic. Puerto Vallarta is also proud to be the home of some very competent, highly qualified and experienced gastroenterologists, bariatric surgeons, internists, cosmetic and reconstructive surgeons, dental surgeons, etc., many of which have received partial training in the US and virtually all are fluent in English.

It’s common knowledge that for many years, North Americans have headed south of the border for various cosmetic procedures. Not only are they able to have the procedures done and fully recuperate in anonymity but they do so at a fraction of the cost of having them done in the States. Today, there are many excellent plastic surgeons in Vallarta performing liposculptures, face lifts, eyelid surgeries, nose surgeries, breast augmentations, tummy tucks, and approximately 40 other cosmetic and reconstructive procedures on a daily basis.

What is not so well known is that various bariatric procedures are also being performed laparoscopically on a daily basis in Vallarta. These procedures include Roux-en-Y gastric bypasses, gastric sleeve resections, and adjustable gastric “lap” bands. One of the talented local surgeons has performed more than 1,000 such procedures; approximately 40% bypasses, 40% sleeves, and 20% lap bands. (As a side note of interest, this surgeon, with the assistance of another of these talented internists, recently laparoscopically removed the author’s ruptured appendix!)

The costs of these laparoscopic bariatric surgical procedures vary slightly from one to another but on the average are about 2/3 of what they would be in the States. A typical “package” would be about $10,000 US and would include all hospital and doctor charges as well as the flight and accommodations in a fine resort hotel. Yes, that’s right; basically a free vacation in Paradise plus world class medical care for less than the cost back home where all your friends and neighbors can ask questions and watch you recover!

For those of you not familiar with laparoscopy, you may know someone who has had his or her gallbladder removed, had an appendectomy, or had a hernia repaired laparoscopically and was up and around in just a couple days. Thanks to both the skill of the surgeon and advances in technology, laparoscopic techniques, often referred to as minimally invasive techniques, are being applied to a growing number of procedures and someday will likely replace open surgical procedures in many other areas.

The main advantage of this safe new technique is that there is no need for large incisions. Instead, the surgeon operates through the belly button and a couple other small openings about the size of buttonholes, while viewing the patient’s internal organs on a TV monitor using an internal camera. Laparoscopy is setting new standards for patient care because it allows surgeons to perform many operations without the trauma and pain associated with a large incision. Since there are no large incisions to heal, patients have less pain and recover sooner; hence, the cost of laparoscopic procedures are usually substantially less than those with conventional entries because the hospital stays are greatly reduced.

Okay, now that you’ve just shed 100 pounds, had a quick tummy-tuck and perhaps a little liposculpture work, it’s time for some tanning in the warm winter PV sun; after all, the flight and part of the accommodations were included in your “package”! Give yourself a week of rest and relaxation in one of Vallarta’s fitness centers and perhaps then you’ll be ready for a face lift, a breast augmentation, or maybe even a mouthful of straight white teeth!

There are many fine dentists in Vallarta where fillings, root canals, bonding and bleaching are commonplace. There are also a number of highly trained excellent dental surgeons that specialize in caps, crowns, bridges, dentures, and implants, all at a fraction of the cost of the same in the States. Of course, the simple procedures are practiced in the many local dentists’ offices whereas the more complex procedures are done in the more sophisticated clinics and hospitals where they have all of the latest in modern equipment and facilities.

The bottom line is; today’s medical and dental care in Puerto Vallarta is virtually world class and prices are a fraction of those in the US. If elective, non-insured medical procedures are in your plans, you should seriously consider the modern facilities and excellent doctors and dentists in PV. There is not a better place on the planet for recuperating after surgery than in Vallarta during the beautiful winter months of November through May. Upon returning home, your friends will be duly impressed when they see you proudly “strut your stuff”, as you inform them that you rediscovered the Fountain of Youth while vacationing in Paradise!

Becoming a Dentist: Do You Have What it Takes?

It’s not exactly an easy road to become a dentist. Most people assume that something as simple as dealing with teeth isn’t that difficult and they tend to demean the profession. Dentists have to study hard to get to the point where they can run their own practice, though and it’s not as simple as many think.

College Years

It’s a good idea to take plenty of science courses while in college, preparing for dentistry. Most students who plan to become dentists go ahead and major in biology or chemistry to ensure they have enough classes to get into a dental school.

This section of your education will take four years and you’ll come out the other end with a bachelor’s degree, which can be used for many things, not the least of which, moving on to dental school.

Getting Into Dental School

In order to go from science major to getting your doctorate in dental studies, you’ll need to start by taking the DAT, or Dental Admissions Test. This is a way to check and ensure that you have the knowledge and studies required to continue on with your quest to become a dentist. The score from this test is what is used, along with your grades and recommendations, to apply to universities.

Once you have been accepted into a dental school, you are looking at another 4 years of hard studying. For the first couple of years, you’ll be strictly in a classroom environment, studying, taking in lectures and doing tests. Most of the courses required will be scientific in nature and you’ll also be doing some clinical studies.

The second half of the university involves real life applications. You’ll actually be treating patients while under supervision. This is where the practical experience comes in and it’s one of the best ways to learn, by actually doing. You’ll be putting all your classroom knowledge to the test here, so you will need to have done very well in the previous two years of studies.

Becoming a Real Dentist

After you’ve studied your complete eight years (four in college to get your bachelor’s degree and four in the dental school) you will need to get your license. A license allows you to practice dentistry legally. In order to obtain this license, you will be required to pass both written and practical exams to ensure that you are ready to start doing dental work on your own.

With your license in hand, it’s time to start working. Most new dentists continue their studies by working with established dental professionals until such time as they feel confident enough on their own to open a practice. Others will go straight from school to opening their own practice. Which option is best for you? That is up to you to decide.

Becoming a dentist requires a lot of dedication. It’s not something you can do after taking a short course. There are eight long years of studying, six of those being in a classroom, two being practical applications, and that is far too much for some people. If you aren’t certain that this is the path you want to take, it might be a good idea to think it over carefully before committing such a large chunk of your life to study.

Dentistry can be a rewarding profession, if you are ready to tackle the studies that are required to get you to the point where you will have your own license and be ready to practice. With some dedication and hard work, you could be there in eight years.

Cosmetic Dentistry

More and more people are becoming open to undergoing cosmetic dentistry to boost up their confidence and to attain that charming and unforgettable smile. There is indeed a huge impact made by first impressions, and amongst the most important elements of that impressive first impression is the smile. A person’s oral condition tells much about him or her. The condition of the teeth even in the aesthetic aspect could inarguably affect the day-to-day life. Therefore, in today’s setting, dentistry is no longer only about pulling out or filing a hole in a tooth. It has become an important resort to improve one’s appearance and boost self-esteem and, consequently, many other areas in one’s life.

There are now numerous procedures and treatments that one can choose from to achieve exactly what he or she wants with their pearly whites. However, selecting such procedure does not mean it can be done without the dentist’s advice. Most dentists are willing to discuss with their patients the best options in terms of expenses and favourable results. The following are simple descriptions of some of the most common procedures considered as cosmetic dentistry:

Teeth Whitening: Teeth often get stained from smoking, food, drink (coffee, tea, or red wine) or poor oral hygiene and some people born with darker shades of teeth can now lighten them without having to remove the teeth’s natural outer layers. The procedure is very quick, where tiny laser beams are shone on the teeth that have been applied with whitening chemicals. The laser speeds the whitening process and can lighten the teeth to up to six shades.

White Fillings: To save a cavity damaged tooth, dentists sometimes suggest filling it rather than extracting. These are for cases wherein the holes are not yet too big and deep. White composite fillings are preferred by more people over the silver amalgam because of its appearance and other benefits. We get to select the fillings made of porcelain or a composite material that closely matches with the colour of the teeth, thus maintaining the natural appearance of the teeth and smile. Many people have got their older fillings replaced with newer, tooth-colored fillings to enhance their oral appearance.

Bridges: An alternative for removable dentures, especially for those who have only one or two missing teeth are bridges. This is done by crowning two teeth on either side of the gap where a false tooth or teeth are attached in between the two crowns.

Crowns: Crowns are tooth coverings that can be made of porcelain and special kinds of metal. Crowns are designed for different purposes and a thorough discussion with the dentist can help a lot.

There are so many more procedures under cosmetic dentistry and getting the best and most appropriate one can only be done by having a discussion with your dentist. Amongst the other procedures are orthodontics, veneers, correcting the “bite,” and jewels. Yes, even small pieces of jewelry can now be implanted on the teeth.
Among many other advantages of cosmetic dentistry, a beautiful smile is the most significant. It makes us feel younger and full of youth.

How to Quadruple Your Chances of Landing a Client Using “Bulky” Mail

There are many effective ways a corporate freelancer can market herself…online and offline networking, cold calls, public speaking, article writing, and about ten or so other methods.

But the one I teach my coaching students to start with is direct mail. That’s because direct mail is the ONLY marketing tool that allows you to target your market precisely. Every other method “attracts” potential clients, but direct mail is the only way to raise your chances of working with the specific companies and organizations YOU want to work with.

And because getting the “right names” or the “big companies” in your portfolio opens the door to getting better clients, direct mail should be a primary marketing method of any freelancer who want to increase client quality, and income.

Now, if your portfolio is really skinny and the samples are of low quality, you’re not going to get into the Fortune 500, but a smart mail campaign that sets you apart from the rest will get you noticed by high-quality mid-size companies who are used to working with high-caliber professionals.

So how do you put together a mailing that gets noticed?

It’s easy…put something bulky in the envelope.

Think about it. When you’ve received something in the mail that has bulk, and you don’t know what it is, you ALWAYS open the envelope, don’t you?

Well, the decision-maker you’re targeting is human too…and 99 times out of 100, he’ll open the envelope to see what’s inside.

Now of course, whatever you’ve tucked into the envelope had better have relevance, or cleverness, or both. (If you can’t have both, go for relevance.)

In an ad agency, this is called “concepting.” You think of some unusual and relevant as a way to get the attention of your target. The elements of your campaign, the envelope, a letter, a “bulky item,” etc., are developed after the main message has been determined. And as we all know by now (don’t we?)…the best message usually has to do with solving a business pain experienced by your target.

So ok. What would this look like…a “bulky item” concept that supports a message that promises to alleviate a pain of your target audience?

Years ago a client came to me who said “I need to fill seminar seats so I can sell dentists my $15,000 marketing solution. But the problem is, it’s hard to get through the gatekeeper. The front office keeps dumping my letters.”

My client knew that dentists are very busy, under a lot of pressure (this is the pain). So I came up with the idea of sending a couple of tea bags along with the letter.

The messaging (from memory) was “I know you’re very busy and rarely get time to rest. But here’s an invitation to take a break with a cup of chamomile tea. And while you’re enjoying a well-deserved moment of calm, give yourself the opportunity to consider this offer…”

The bulky envelope idea was a smashing success and my client used it for years. The “bulk” in the envelope gave the mailing importance (or intrigue), and got it past the gatekeeper and into the dentist’s hands. And apparently, the dentists liked it that someone understood their “pain.”

You can use the same tactic to set yourself apart from all the other (less imaginative) freelance pros out there.

The key is to come up with an inexpensive idea for a bulky item that’s relevant to your message. And the most effective message is the one that promises to alleviate a pain your prospect must grapple with.

Where to get ideas for 3-D or bulky mailers

In the agency world (where I come from), there are companies that supply specialty items for bulky mailers. One is called Impact Products and the site is run by well-known direct marketer Mitch Carson.

At Mitch’s site you’ll discover categories of common products marketers use for attention-getters, premiums, and dimensional mail. These items are part of the catalog because they’re the kind of items that often have “relevance” to a smart marketing message.

This site will get your thinking going, but remember, the best ideas are original ideas, spawned by your own creative solutions to client problems.

Dentist Marketing Online-The Best Way To Market Your Dental Practice

As a Dentist, dental practice marketing is not usually on the forefront of your mind.  Not only are you responsible for knowing your profession, keeping current with new developments in your field, and continuing education requirements so that you can continue practicing.  You also have to handle the day to day operation of your business.  This is something that Dental school just cannot adequately prepare you for.

Online dentist marketing is fast becoming the method of choice for Dentist’s who want to increase their new patients per month and increase the number of patients who come to them for premium services.

The biggest issue that most Dentists have is making sure that they have a steady flow of new patients coming through the door, and not just for cleanings.  The most profitable services that most Dentists offer have to do with cosmetic enhancements.  Whether it is simple dentures or high end implants, this is where your bread and butter is.

Print advertising is expensive and doesn’t work very well.  Television and Radio marketing works but is very expensive.  How are you going to set yourself apart from the rest of the crowd?  You have a website, but don’t get m any referrals from it and it doesn’t rank high in the search engines for the terms your clients are looking for?

Search Engine Optimization or SEO for dentists is fast becoming the most effective way to attract new clients.

Before undergoing a procedure and spending the money to pay for it, consumers are using the power of the internet to research not only the options they have in local providers but also the procedures and pricing itself.  While no one is going to be performing the procedure on themselves after researching online, they are going to spend a decent bit of time researching dental procedures before making a decision.

With SEO you can make sure and be the Dentist that consistently shows up in their searches solidifying your authority on the dental procedure that they are looking into and they will flood your office with calls for appointments.  Just a few extra clients per week could be what you are looking for to really get ahead.  Online Dental Practice Marketing is the best way to increase your client load for your dental practice.

There are 3 essential aspects to SEO for your dental practice.

-Make sure that onsite optimization is set up for good keywords

- Make sure that you are listed in relevant search engines

-Publish articles weekly or more often on topics that you clients will find useful

These three steps are very basic but are more than many of your competitors are doing and will yield results with continued effort.  The other option is to hire a marketing consultant to do it for you.  This will be faster and may be less expensive than doing it yourself since you will be able to spend that time serving clients rather than handling the online marketing for your practice.

How to Run a Dental Practice Management

It is every dentist’s dream to be running a successful dental management practice. However, new dentists will soon be rudely shocked by the realities of running a business. Being competent in dentistry is simply not enough. Business acumen and financial skills must also be present to ensure that the business grows successfully. After all, no dentist can continue to practice if the business stays unprofitable. Let’s take a look at a few key areas that dentists must pay attention to.

Financial management.

This is, by far, the most important aspect of running a business. As the owner of a dental practice, you are not just a dentist. You are also a business owner. That means you must be able to manage the cash flow of the business. For example, you may have plans for expansion, but you are not sure that the cash you have in your bank account will pull you through the expansion phase. Here is where you need financial management skills. If you are able to make sound business decisions based on the numbers you see on the balance sheet, your business will certainly benefit greatly.

Human resources.

Another key area to focus on is human resources. To run an efficient and effective practice, you need to depend on your staff to complete various tasks. Running a team is by no means, an easy task. You need to understand the needs of your employees, and what motivates them to stay and work hard in your organization. You also need to be able to spot and employ the best people so that you can build a strong team.

Sales and marketing.

As a business owner, you cannot run away from sales and marketing. Sure, you can employ staff to help you with marketing activities. But ultimately, you are the brain behind all those activities. You know the direction that your business is headed, so you are in the best position to draft out marketing campaigns. What does your dental practice stands for? Where do you see your business five years down the road? What are your expansion plans? Those are difficult questions to answer. Perhaps, only you hold to key to those answers.

Leadership.

As your practice grows, you are going to need to grow your team. And your team cannot grow without proper leadership. Someone must be able to lead the team! Many times, new dentists make the mistake of doing too much on their own. In other words, they think that just because they own the practice, they must assume the leadership role.

Unfortunately, they are not making the best use of their time. If they are not seeing patients and filling appointments, they are not making money. So sometimes, it’s best to leave management tasks to managers and supervisors, who can fork out the time and do a better job at leading the team.

If you are thinking of growing your dental practice, start selecting some of your best employees and send them for leadership training. They will be able to contribute more to your organization.
