A smile is a smile…in any language
“Outside the textbook” is a phrase Sister Pat uses frequently to describe the way her relationship with students extends far beyond the classroom. Stressing the importance of oneness with her community, Sister Pat and her tutors have been reaching out to the new immigrant and refugee population for the past two decades. The majority of her students are women; often single heads of household, that fall below the poverty line. Other more structured ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) programs have large classes and can cost tuition. Pat’s program involves one-on-one tutoring, at no cost to the student. While Sister Pat must compete for funds, she never sees the cost. Instead, her students repay her with smiles and hugs that translate beyond any language or currency.

What does it mean when a guy randomly catches your gaze & smiles at you during class?
This guy that sits in front of me in class randomly catches my gaze and smiles at me a few times every day. I was like, "what?" and he smiled a little and jokingly muttered, "nothing." And also when he dropped a bunch of pencils on the ground he turned around and was like, "that didn’t really work out" and smiled at me. We’ve talked a few times but we’re not friends or anything. I barely know him. But I think I like him. What do I do?
Generally when someone makes an effort to get your attention, it means theyre interested in getting to know you.
As a friend or maybe more. Next time he catches your gaze and smiles, smile back and say ‘hey’ or something like that. That way you can try and get to know him. Who knows? you two might just become good friends

Alaipayuthey (2000)(Jumping Waves / compared to tempting or fickle mind in Tamil) is an Indian, Tamil language film directed by Mani Ratnam. Starring R. Madhavan and Shalini, the film explores the tensions of married life and the maturing of love. The film’s score and soundtrack are composed by acclaimed film composer A. R. Rahman. Alaipayuthey’s story is mostly recollected in flashback by the character Karthik. Karthik and Shakthi fall in love against the backdrop of Madras and its suburban trains, against the wishes of their parents. Most of the second half of the film deals with the tensions and discontent of married life as contrasted with the exuberance of romantic love. The movie was well received by critics and did well at the Tamil and Telugu box-offices primarily for its music.
The film made its European premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2001. It was shown at various film festivals nationally and internationally. It also carried a very popular soundtrack, composed by A. R. Rahman.
Alaipayuthey was remade in Hindi as Saathiya, directed by Shaad Ali in 2002.
